Vision

To empower utilities to monitor for real-time stability and oscillation issues on the interconnected power system in the Control Room environment. 

Mission

To develop a NERC SAR that addresses real-time stability monitoring and oscillation requirements within NERC standards.

Scope of Work

This task force will work on the following scope:

  • Align SAR effort with support from NERC SMWG
  • Review and summarize recommendations from regulatory reports on large system outages.
  • Review existing NERC standard stability monitoring requirements and report on specific areas of concern, including the WECC IRO-002-7 variance
  • Research regulatory requirements for stability monitoring from external jurisdictions around the world
  • Prepare a combined report on regulatory requirements for stability monitoring 
  • Develop a NERC SAR that aims to make stability monitoring in real-time a requirement
  • Present SAR requirements to NERC Energy Management System Working Group (EMSWG) and Real Time Operating Subcommittee (RTSO)
